2025 is widely recognized by the industry as the "capacity fulfillment year" for China’s ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) market. With the full commissioning of new plants by giants such as Yulong Petrochemical and Yike Chemical, China’s global ABS supply capacity has achieved a qualitative leap. For international buyers, this means a more stable, high-quality, and highly price-competitive source of supply in the coming years.
1. Capacity Overview: Surging Output Hits a Record High
According to the latest industry statistics, China’s ABS market witnessed an unprecedented period of capacity release in 2025.
●Output Record High: From January to November 2025, the total domestic ABS output reached 6.2578 million tons.
●Full-Year Forecast: The annual output is expected to exceed 6.9 million tons, a substantial year-on-year increase of about 1.41 million tons, representing a surge of 25.7%.
This data not only sets a new historical record, but also marks the further consolidation of China’s position as the world’s largest ABS producer and consumer.
2. Core Driving Forces: Inventory of New Capacity by Petrochemical Giants
This round of output surge is not caused by a single factor, but the result of the "grouped" commissioning of multiple integrated refining and chemical enterprises. The following are key new capacity updates influencing the market in 2025:
●Shandong Yulong Petrochemical (600,000 tons): As a dark horse in the industry, Yulong Petrochemical’s two sets of ABS plants with a total capacity of 600,000 tons were successively commissioned in the middle of the year and quickly converted into commercial volumes. Leveraging the cost advantages of its integrated refining and chemical operations, it has become the most important source of incremental supply in the 2025 market, significantly driving down the market cost of general-purpose grades.
●Yike Chemical (225,000 tons): On July 18, the first-phase bulk polymerization ABS plant of Yike Chemical achieved successful one-time feeding. This not only increased market supply, but also broke the technical barriers of high-end bulk polymerization technology, with products targeting the automotive and high-end home appliance sectors.
●Jilin Petrochemical (200,000 tons): The newly-built bulk polymerization plant of Jilin Petrochemical, scheduled for commissioning in October, further enhances the supply capacity in Northeast China, optimizes the geographical distribution of domestic supply sources, and facilitates the allocation of the nearest inventory for global customers.
●Zhejiang Petrochemical: The ABS/AS/PS capacity included in its Phase III project is also advancing steadily, continuously providing strong support for export stockpiling at ports in East China.
